The Last Emperor

My lady friend and I watched Valentino: The Last Emperor last night, and it was great. I strongly recommend it.

Tom Brady: Suiting up for game day

The New England Patriots are playing their Week 7 game in London, England this week. There was one player on the roster who may not have received the memo about the team's traveling attire, but this is one mistake that we should all be making. What can we mere mortals learn from this event: If there is a choice between being under-dressed or over-dressed for any event, choose the later. If you are skeptical about my please consult exhibit A:

Byron and Dexter Peart

Byron and Dexter Peart are the creative minds behind the accessories brand Want Les Essentiels de la Vie. They make great bags and wallets named after international airports. Here are two of my favourites from their line:

Trudeau Bag
Charleroi 48 Hr Travel Bag

They are both now featured in J. Crew's The Real Guys Style Guide:

This isn't the first time these twins have gotten some mainstream exposure; Dexter was featured in the GQ Rules video series last year. Not too bad for two guys from Montreal.

Style Icon: Wynton Marsalis

Brooks Brothers suits, french cuff shirts, proper braces (a.k.a. suspenders) with leather tabs and a Pulizter Prize to hang on the mantle...a true man of style.

Vanity Fair 2009 Best Dressed

It is good to see that the majority of winners on Vanity Fair's 2009 International Best-Dressed List are not actors and actresses.

Here is my nomination for the best of The Best:

Matteo Marzotto

GQ Blog

I am not sure how I missed this before: GQ Blog.
Happy reading.

New Look for GQ.com

GQ has completed a very nice re-design of their website. You will have to excuse the gratuitous inclusion of this month's cover model, Ms. January Jones from Mad Men, in my sample picture.

Canada Goose Chateau Parka

On my wish list for Winter: Canada Goose Chateau Parka. It will keep me warm on those -20°C days in Montreal, and look good doing it.

Daniel Craig and the three piece suit

I will soon be in the market for a three-piece-suit and I thought that Daniel Craig would be the perfect inspiration. The one thing that he seems to get right, when many other men get wrong, is the height of the top button on the waistcoat: low enough to show a healthy portion of his shirt and tie, but high enough above the top button of his jacket (one or two buttons preferably) so that things don't get too crowded around his midsection.

Tom Ford is responsible for Mr. Bond's impeccable three-piece look, and can also hold his own wearing a vest:

Domenico Vacca

Some great looks from Domenico Vacca, who incidentally does the wardrobe for HBO's Entourage. Oh, if you haven't tried wearing a pocket square with a topcoat you don't know what you are missing.

Matteo di Montezemolo

A cool little feature on Matteo di Montezemolo from T:Design 2009 in the New York Times. Good style runs in the family.

Scarves

One of the few things that I enjoy about the weather getting colder is that scarves can become part of the wardrobe again. Above is an assortment from my collection, but I can't compete with Mr. Domenico Vacca:
